State Notification System

2 ENROLLED, An Act,
3 Relating to school safety; to require the Alabama
4 Department of Education to implement an electronic
5 notification system to facilitate the sharing of school
6 emergency-related information between local schools, local
7 school systems, the department, and the Governor.
8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
9 Section 1. (a) The Department of Education shall
10 implement an electronic notification system designed to allow
11 local schools and local school systems to input specific
12 information relating to school delays, early releases,
13 shelter-in-place information, as well as other
14 emergency-related information to be compiled in one central
15 electronic repository that is accessible by the department and
16 the Governor.


17 (b) The department shall implement the electronic
18 notification system under subsection (a) by October 1, 2017.
19 (c) It is the intent of the Legislature that all
20 local schools and local school systems use the electronic
21 notification system implemented by the department as a means
22 of relaying information as set forth in subsection (a).
23 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
24 first day of the third month following its passage and
25 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
